Professional sitarist, disciple of Padma Bhushan Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee, Grammy collaborator, and founder of the Saraswati School of Music in Dallas, TX.
Based in Dallas, Texas, Vatsal is one of North America's most accomplished sitarists — a direct disciple of Padma Bhushan awardee Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee, one of the foremost living exponents of the Imdadkhani gharana and the gayaki style of sitar playing. Under Pt. Mukherjee's rigorous tutelage — at the Rotterdam World Music Conservatory in Holland and through continued visits to Kolkata — Vatsal has devoted over 25 years to mastering a tradition that treats music not as performance, but as a path.
His journey began in Ahmedabad, India, under Ghulam Rasul Khan, an All India Radio artist and disciple of Ustad Rais Khan. He performs across the US, UK, Canada, and India, weaving North Indian classical ragas, Sufi devotional music, and world fusion into immersive soundscapes that transcend cultural boundaries.
His ensemble Brahma Nada brings this living tradition to weddings, corporate events, festivals, and intimate gatherings. He has collaborated with Grammy award-winning musician Art Greenhaw on the world fusion album Lone Star Sitar, available on Spotify and Apple Music. He is also the founder of Saraswati School of Music in Dallas and author of Sitar 101.
Three class packages — beginner to advanced. In-person in Dallas, TX and online worldwide via Zoom. Rooted in the Imdadkhani gharana tradition.
